bloom

My childhood home was backed by a wooded area. Without a fence, the line between the backyard and the woods bordering the property was easily breached, and I spent much of my youth climbing trees, building forts, and feeling dirt between my fingers. Those early experiences were foundational, and I wanted to escape the walls of a suburban home. As an adult, I am still deeply connected to the natural world. That said, as time passes, things are becoming more digital and less terrestrial for current generations. Attention spans are getting shorter, screen times are getting longer, and some have forgotten what it feels like to lay in the grass and listen to the birds sing.

BLOOM explores the child-like feeling of being at one with nature and how the natural landscape organically compliments the human figure. Inspired by dryad imagery from Greek Mythology, the series observes that like the birds and the bears, we humans are children of Earth too. Through the images, viewers are reminded of a less technological way of living and encouraged to go outside and get dirty.
